Satellite television is a booming industry with a huge demographic and profit potential for marketers to
tap into. There's everything from straight up scam's to pushy sales people
and deceptive sales tactics.
Some people have received phone calls from companies claiming to be
dealers who make offers far beyond the standard. Offers such as dual dishes,
multiple receivers, and discounts off the normal subscription rates which is accomlished by
them directly billing upfront instead of routing you through Dish Networks monthy subscription. They'll come set
you up and charge you upfront for a year then dissappear a month later leaving
you with multiple dishes and receivers but no service because they will stop paying your
Dish Network. This is not allowed and Dish Network will not uphold promises made by
any dealer which deviates from their usual standard deals. Offers such as 3 months free HBO,
6 months free HD, free DVR upgrade, are all offers you get whether you go
staight through Dish Network or signup through a dealer.
Others are just
high pressured sales artisits who leave you feeling either crazy for not signing up
or a sucker for agreeing to. Here in Tucson, AZ, there's sales people who come to our door with
offers. They offer the same Dish Network offer as everyone else but act as if you're getting
an outrageous and special deal going through them. I've been told that their boss is on vaction this week
so the whole sales team is giving away bonuses that will either get them in trouble or
rewarded if they can pull high volumes. I've also been told that they just signed up my neighbor
which I later confirmed was not true. You probably won't catch a bad break, but you'll feel
like you just bought a car from a pushy car dealer. You also won't get the bonus offers and support
that bigger and better companies are offering. See our front page for a break down on the
offers being made, what's standard but hyped, and whats a real bonus above and beyond the
standard offer.
